MI Underwriting Manager (West Coast Regional Underwriter)

The Regional Underwriter (RU) will be the liaison between Genworth sales, our customer and the operations team providing the highest level of customer service and experience. The RU position reports to the Manager, Regional Underwriting and will support the West Coast.


  • Serve as customer fulfillment expert and liaison between Genworth sales, our customers and the operations team

  • Provide the highest level of internal and external customer service with proficiencies in phone skills and responsiveness

  • Maintain acceptable Regional Underwriter customer and sales accessibility levels

  • Ability to travel with sales to make customer visits

  • Answer underwriting questions and conduct research and provide answers to complex underwriting scenarios

  • Handle/Resolve escalated or complex customer issues and concerns effectively and timely

  • Collect data and perform customer trend analysis providing feedback and recommendations to management

  • Responsible for process enhancements to meet the changing needs of our customer base

  • Provide technical expertise and help resolve any customer service issues resulting from systems problems

  • Ability to underwrite loan applications according to investor/agency and Genworth guidelines

  • Review and evaluate information on mortgage loan documents to determine if buyer, property and loan conditions meet investor/agency and/or Genworth guidelines

  • Perform second reviews on loans to determine if loan meets required guidelines

  • Maintain audit error rate and turn times within Genworth Standards

  • Maintain flexibility on moving from one set of guidelines to another in reviewing loans


  • Five years of strong underwriting experience in conventional loans

  • Excellent knowledge of investor and agency guidelines

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills

  • Ability to handle high volume of work and multiple priorities while meeting deadlines

  • Possess strong property evaluation, overall risk analysis and analytical skills

  • Strong organization and follow-up skills

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills

  • Ability to travel


  • UCP Certification Level Ill

  • Excellent knowledge of Genworth guidelines
