Led by our Chief Investment Officer, the Investment Department manages a consolidated investment portfolio of nearly $75 billion and consists of investment professionals focused on portfolio management, risk management, asset management, derivatives, operations, finance and accounting functions.

POSITION SUMMARY

This role will support fundamental credit research and team reporting as a member of the Public Corporate Credit Research team (“PCCR”). The successful candidate will be a key member of a team that evaluates new investment opportunities and manages existing investment positions and will have a specific focus in covering the energy sector. This role supports team investment, analytic, and reporting responsibilities. This position will report to the Head of Corporate Credit Research.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Core Credit Analyst role responsibilities will include:

  • Through fundamental credit analysis, provide timely recommendations in support of investment and portfolio management needs and new-issue and secondary-market opportunities. Analysis to include total exposure, maturity, and relative value considerations, as well as consideration of broader Genworth investment goals, strategies and risk tolerance

  • Share knowledge – both verbally and in writing -- regarding ongoing credit or sector developments with other members of the Corporate Credit Research Team, Private Placements and Genworth Investments

  • Prepare timely, comprehensive written analyses on individual credits, sectors, or events and cogently present facts, analyses, conclusions, and recommendations to a broad audience within Genworth Investments

  • Maintain and report-out on individual credit or sector events to a broad audience within Genworth Investments and convey implications relative to the portfolio

  • Review and analyze transaction documents and assess strengths, risks, and value of deal covenants and structure • Interact with rating agencies, Wall Street analysts, and other independent sources to obtain external views on individual credits or industries

  • Lead or participate in monthly credit reviews and credit surveillance discussions and provide in-depth assessment of identified names for periodic accounting valuation processes • Provide credit research to support new business initiatives

  • Develop and maintain relationships with industry peers and participants including Genworth’s primary securities dealer coverage

Beyond the Analyst’s core responsibilities, preferred capabilities will include either demonstrated ability or working progress towards:

  • Leading or actively contributing to division-wide projects and process improvement efforts

  • Developing and maintaining working relationships among large teams in a matrix organization

  • Teaching and mentoring Investments Associates

  • Capably influencing members of the Investments Leadership Team

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • MBA or equivalent degree and 5-7+ years corporate credit research experience

  • Undergraduate degree

  • Experience and demonstrated ability in analyzing corporate financial statements

  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills and the ability to present effectively to Investment Area leadership and broader groups

  • Solid decision-making skills regarding core credit responsibilities, requiring only limited guidance and oversight

  • Strong functional capability with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook) suite of applications and Bloomberg terminal functions

  • Understanding of fixed income mathematics

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience covering the Energy sector and/or commodity-driven sectors

  • CFA or candidacy

  • Understanding of current credit risk models such as KMV, etc.
