POSITION SUMMARY

This role is an integral part of the Actuarial Department & member of the Actuarial Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Chief Actuary of US Life. The role is responsible for leading all aspects of Life actuarial work, including valuation & financial reporting, model development, projections, experience studies, assumption development and in force management.

The role will be responsible for effectively developing and managing a large and diverse team and for prioritizing both run-the-shop activities and improvement initiatives. Effective communication and partnership with leaders from a wide range of functional disciplines is a key success factor.

Genworth has significant blocks of both Term and Universal Life (with and without Secondary Guarantees), each of which present unique financial reporting and administrative complexities. The ideal candidate will have strong experience in both product lines.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Provide leadership for a team of 50+ associates through Senior Managers working on Term Life, Universal Life and other smaller blocks of life insurance

  • Execute effective management reporting and communication to senior leadership

  • Effectively communicate with regulators, auditors and other external stakeholders

  • Lead experience reviews and assumption development

  • Manage model development and maintenance to improve analytical capabilities and efficiencies

  • Provide oversight for monthly US GAAP, Chinese GAAP and Statutory valuation and financial reporting

  • Supervise projections in relation to US GAAP Loss Recognition Testing, Statutory Cash Flow Testing (including Actuarial Guidelines 38 and 48) and business planning

  • Ensure that strong and effective controls are designed and executed

  • Lead in force management reviews and adjustments to non-guaranteed elements, as appropriate

  • Partner with other leaders in the establishment & ongoing management of reinsurance arrangements

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

  • 15+ years actuarial experience

  • Experience managing large actuarial teams with a focus on building organizational talent

  • Fellow of the Society of Actuaries and Member, American Academy of Actuaries

  • BS/BA Degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics and/or related major

  • Strong understanding of GAAP and Statutory financial reporting requirements

  • Strong communication and relationship building skills with both technical and non-technical colleagues

  • Ability to manage concurrent deadlines and multiple priorities

  • Experience with actuarial projection and valuation systems (i.e. GGY AXIS, PolySystems)

  • Strong presentation skills and experience presenting to senior leadership

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • 10+ Years of Life actuarial experience

  • Experience with business planning

  • Experience with Chinese GAAP and/or IFRS

  • Strong reinsurance knowledge, including captive structures
