This position reports to the VP, Capital Management, Pricing, & Investor Relations and is key member of a small team responsible for the pricing process for the business. The ideal candidate is well spoken, poised, reliable, responsible, detailed-oriented, and a highly organized individual who is capable of handling multiple tasks simultaneously while maintaining a high-quality work product. This position will require coordination with multiple functions, data analysis, strong understanding of company pricing strategy and guidelines, and a continual evaluation and improvement of the pricing process.
Contribute at a high level as an experienced member of the pricing team who is responsible for implementation of the U.S. Mortgage Insurance (USMI) overall pricing strategies on both new issue and existing products and transactions within commercial and regulatory constraints
Provide comprehensive pricing analysis and recommendations to Finance / Risk / Commercial on base rate card changes, competing alternatives, cell level and aggregate returns for all segments and products, expansion decisions, lender exceptions, Lender Paid Mortgage Insurance (LPMI) transactions, structured or back-end deals, segment/niche rate card analysis
Refine economic capital modeling for pricing including the evaluation of the stochastic distribution for use. Collaborate with Finance/Risk/Actuarial teams.
Evaluate risk-return equation that reflects USMI risk appetite and lead analysis to determine appropriate pricing for incremental risk
Develop guidelines for appropriate usage of unconditional vs. conditional, deterministic vs. stochastic metrics and establish appropriate return hurdles for expected and stress case
Conduct comprehensive financial valuation of captive commutations through analyzing intrinsic value, NPV of cash flow approach as well as evaluating GAAP P/L impact of commutation decisions.
Evaluate loss forecasting and prepayment models
Drive cross functional analytical efforts on analytical and modeling issues
Provide rate filing support ad hoc requests from HQ, Finance, Risk, Actuarial teams including analysis of new business profitability, cash flows, etc.
Analyze and communicate market trends and pricing strategies to key stakeholders within the business.
Incorporate and share best practices regarding pricing models, techniques, and research with other pricing leaders within Genworth.
Create documentation procedures and policy documents that ensure transparent and cohesive pricing process
Display proficient ability to analyze SAS datasets and modeling results and test for possible data biases and errors.
Apply traditional actuarial rate making standards of practice to pricing new business, coupled with an in-depth understanding of insurance lines, coverages, and products as well as reinsurance structures and terms.
B.S. degree in Analytical Field (Finance, Math, Science, Econometrics, Programming, etc.)
5+ years of experience in marketing, finance, risk, or actuarial functions
Excel/SAS proficiency required, programming skills required, must understand a variety of database formats and software to access them
Collaborative and effective member in team environment
Strong ability to analyze data and develop recommendations
Excellent communications skills, particularly in cross-functional teams and with upper management
Ability to work independently and without close supervision on multiple projects simultaneously, anticipate necessary effort and difficulty and adhere to mutually-agreed upon schedules
Excellent analytical and creative problem solving skills
M.B.A. or CFA
7+ years of experience or applicable finance / actuarial / SAS internship
Experience working in a transaction-oriented environment where deals constantly need to be priced
Understanding of credit analysis
Knowledge of database applications and IT system development
Commitment to learning actuarial principles and/or advanced financial concepts
